과학기술연합대학원대학교(UST·총장 김이환)가 2024학년도 후기 석·박사 과정 신입생을 모집한다.

이번에 신입생을 선발하는 곳은 한국전자통신연구원(ETRI), 한국생명공학연구원(KRIBB), 한국과학기술연구원(KIST), 한국화학연구원(KRICT) 등 27개 스쿨이며, 전자·생명·에너지·화학 등 43개 전공에서 신입생을 모집한다.

신입생들은 일반 대학과 차별화된 고유의 국책연구 연계 석ㆍ박사과정 ‘연구경험 중심’ 교육 시스템을 통해 이공계 각 분야의 대표 국가연구소에서 학위과정을 진행하게 된다.

모든 UST 학생들은 양자 정보, 인공지능(AI)부터 항공우주시스템공학 등 최첨단 과학기술 분야 국책 연구과제에 참여하는 학생연구원으로서, 매달 박사과정 최소 180만원, 석사과정 최소 135만원 이상(근로계약 체결 기준)의 학생인건비와 매학기 등록금 전액(250만원) 등 국내 최고 수준의 혜택을 받는다.

특히 이번 학기에는 UST-KIST(한국과학기술연구원) 스쿨이 신설한 ‘천연물응용과학’ 전공도 신입생을 모집한다. 천연물응용과학은 동식물 및 미생물 유래 천연물을 활용하여 각종 질환 개선 및 치료에 사용 가능한 기능성 소재 개발 및 산업화 연계까지 연구하는 전공으로, 천연물 생리활성, 천연물화학, 천연물 정보학, 기능성 식품학, 식물재배생리학, 농업공학 등의 다양한 학문의 융합연구 전공이다.

전공은 창의적 연구 혁신플랫폼 구축 및 세계적인 연구 선도그룹으로의 육성 및 세계 최고 수준의 인재 양성을 위해 신설되었다. 전공책임교수인 노주원 교수는 KIST 강릉분원 천연물융합연구센터장, 스마트팜 솔루션 융합연구단장 등을 역임했다. 천연물응용과학 전공은 이번 후기 모집에 박사, 석·박사통합, 석사과정 신입생을 모집한다.

이번 2024학년도 후기 신입생 모집 전형 원서접수 기간은 4월 17일(수)부터 5월 8일(수) 오후 5시까지이며, 6월 5일(수) 오후 5시 서류심사 합격자 발표 후 서류심사 합격자 대상 전공 심층면접을 진행하고 최종 합격자는 7월 1일(월) 오후 5시에 발표된다.

UST는 입학 희망 학생들에게 구체적이고 실질적인 입시정보를 제공코자 권역별 입시설명회를 개최한다. 3월 23일(토) 서울을 시작으로 3월 26일(화) 대전 UST 대학본부(19시), 4월 2일(화) 광주 북구 행복어울림센터(14시), 4월 5일(금) 부산 서면 KT&G 상상마당(14시), 4월 23일(화) 경북대 카페 루트커피(14시)에서 각각 진행 예정이다.

입시설명회는 UST 소개 및 입학전형 안내, 현장 질의응답 등 학생들의 궁금증 해소는 물론, 국내외 연구 현장에 진출한 UST 졸업생들의 특강을 통해 생생한 경험담을 공유하는 등의 프로그램으로 진행된다. 각 입학설명회 사전 신청 후 참가한 인원에게는 전원 1만원권 기프티콘과 기념품을 증정한다. 자세한 내용은 UST 입학 홈페이지(admission.ust.ac.kr)에서 확인할 수 있다.

UST는 과학기술정보통신부 직할 교육기관으로서 30개 국가연구소에 교육 기능을 부여하여 과학기술 분야 인재를 양성하고 있다. 국가연구소의 박사급 연구원 중 약 1,500명이 UST 교수로 활동 중이며, 매년 미래 유망 국가 전략 분야의 신진연구자를 중심으로 교수를 임용하고 있다.

Admits new students to late-stage master's and doctoral programs for Class of 2024

□ The University of Science and Technology (UST) is recruiting new students for the 2024 academic year for the late master's and doctoral programs.

□ The new students will be selected from 27 schools, including the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Korea Research Institute for Biotechnology (KRIBB), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), and Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT), and will be recruited in 43 majors, including electronics, life, energy, and chemistry.

□ New students will pursue their degrees at representative national research institutes in each field of science and technology through a unique 'research experience-centered' education system for master's and doctoral programs linked to national research, which is differentiated from other universities.

□ As student researchers participating in national research projects in cutting-edge science and technology fields such as quantum information, artificial intelligence (AI), and aerospace systems engineering, all UST students receive the highest benefits in Korea, including a monthly student labor fee of at least 1.8 million won for doctoral programs and at least 1.35 million won for master's programs (based on the signing of a work contract), as well as tuition-free tuition (2.5 million won) every semester.

□ In particular, this semester, UST-KIST is also recruiting new students for the newly established 'Natural Product Applied Science' major. Natural Product Applied Science is a major that utilizes natural products derived from animals, plants, and microorganisms to develop functional materials that can be used to improve and treat various diseases and link them to industrialization, and is an interdisciplinary research major that combines various fields such as natural product bioactivity, natural product chemistry, natural product informatics, functional food science, plant growth physiology, and agricultural engineering.

□ The major was established to build a creative research and innovation platform, foster a world-class research group, and cultivate world-class talent. Professor Joo-Won Noh, who is the director of the major, has served as the head of the Natural Product Convergence Research Center at KIST Gangneung Branch and the head of the Smart Farm Solution Convergence Research Center. The Natural Products Applied Science major is recruiting new PhD, master's, combined PhD, and master's students for this late recruitment.

□ The application period for the late recruitment of new students for the 2024 academic year will be from April 17 (Wednesday) to May 8 (Wednesday) at 5 p.m. The successful applicants will be announced on June 5 (Wednesday) at 5 p.m. After the announcement of the successful applicants, in-depth interviews will be conducted for the successful applicants, and the final applicants will be announced on July 1 (Monday) at 5 p.m.

□ UST will hold admission fairs in each region to provide specific and practical information to prospective students. Starting in Seoul on Saturday, March 23, UST University Headquarters in Daejeon (March 26, 19:00), Gwangju Buk-gu Happy Uplift Center (April 2, 14:00), Busan Seomyeon KT&G Imagination Plaza (April 5, 14:00), and Kyungpook National University Cafe Root Coffee (April 23, 14:00).

□ The information sessions will be held to introduce UST and its admission process, answer questions from students, and share their experiences through special lectures by UST alumni who have gone on to research at home and abroad. About 1,500 of the doctoral-level researchers at the national research institutes are active as professors at UST, and every year, the university appoints professors, focusing on young researchers in promising national strategic fields.
